Question: If you choose the hybrid model, is that for all year? If you wanted to start with hybrid and switch to in person, would that be possible? Answer: Families that submit an intent form stating they prefer virtual learning in the beginning will need to remain with that choice at least through the end of the first nine weeks. There may be some students that need to switch to virtual learning during the year…
Dear HA Families, Due to Governor Cooper’s ban on mass gatherings of more than 100 people, HA will be closed effective immediately and continuing through March 27th. This difficult decision has been made in order to slow the spread of the COVID19 virus. The HA Leadership team, in cooperation with the Board of Trustees has determined that it is time for HA to transition to online/distance learning for that same period of time. If this…
Thanks to the generous donations from many patrons and local businesses we have been able to raise approximately two thirds of the funds needed to complete the Air Conditioning project for the Halifax Academy Gym. At this time, I am happy to announce that we have an anonymous donor who is willing to match dollar for dollar any future donations up to $10,000 in order for us to complete the project. With this information, the…
As we approach Christmas, I believe it is the time to reflect on our blessings and all the reasons we have to be thankful. From a school standpoint, this caused me to reflect on the school year thus far and share some of the reasons we have to be thankful at Halifax Academy (HA). Earlier this year, we celebrated the 50 year anniversary of HA with an all class reunion. We had a good turnout…
It doesn’t seem possible that this is the third week of school. Despite the time missed due to the hurricane, staff and students have gotten off to a great start. We would like to thank Enterprise Baptist Church members for conducting the prayer walk prior to the beginning of school and for the encouraging, uplifting notes that were left in each area of the school. It was refreshing to see students and staff stop to…
As most of you know the BOT has chosen the Gym air conditioning project to kickoff Halifax Academy’s 50th year celebration. I am pleased to share that the fundraising is off to a great start. If the donations continue at the current rate I am hopeful we will be able to start the installation process prior to the beginning of the school year. Thanks to those that have already made a donation to this much…
This year’s career day was a huge success. What a great opportunity for our HA students to hear about so many exciting career opportunities. As usual our students were on their best behavior and were definitely dressed to impress. I am so proud of the way they represent HA each day. A huge shout out to Mrs. Harris, Mrs. Shelburne, and Mrs. George for organizing the event. A special thank you to all the guest…
On our last scheduled early release day for professional development all of our staff watched and discussed a short video called “Austin’s Butterfly”. The video is the story of a first grade student named Austin and the amazing progress he made on his drawing of a butterfly when given detailed and specific feedback from his classmates. It is interesting to watch the students led through the process of critiquing each draft in a constructive manner.…
We at HA have had a blessed start to the fall semester. We missed a minimal amount of school and suffered little damage in our area during the recent Hurricane. This during a time when many in our state have suffered much loss related to the storm. Many schools in NC have students that were left homeless and some have had to relocate classes to off campus sites due to the damage. We all are…
Dear Halifax Academy Parents, We hope all have had a productive and relaxing summer and are ready for another school year. I would like to thank everyone for making my first year at HA a memorable one. HA is a great place to work and go to school. It is a joy to work with each student and be a part of their academic, social, and spiritual development. As educators we strive to challenge ourselves…
Spring has finally arrived and spring sports are in full swing. Congratulations to the baseball, softball, and soccer teams for their wins over Oakwood last Tuesday! The Soccer team is currently 5 - 5 overall, the softball team is 10 - 1, the baseball team is 1 - 4, and JV baseball is 0 - 3 - 1. We congratulate all…
According to Carol Dweck, in a growth mindset, “people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishments”. A growth mindset is opposed to a fixed mindset where people believe that their success or lack of success is due to their innate abilities, such as how smart…
Help us in congratulating several of our HA Vikings on their recent success. Many of our Beta members recently attended the State Beta convention in Greensboro where the scrapbook placed in the top five. Individually, Brewer Shearin placed second in poetry and Maddie Suiter placed third in photography. These two will represent Halifax Academy at the National Senior Beta convention in Savanna Georgia June 17-20, 2018. Way to go Brewer and Maddie!! Several of our…
