School and Position Overview

Halifax Academy is a private interdenominational college preparatory Christian school located in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. Serving students from pre-k through 12th grades, the school is dedicated to educating students based on Biblical principles, such that they are fully prepared to impact the culture for Christ. Halifax Academy has a current enrollment of 288 students with 43 faculty and staff.

The Halifax Academy School Philosophy states that Halifax Academy shall endeavor to:

a. Perpetuate an appreciation for spiritual values,

b. Present opportunities preparing individuals for higher education,

c. Promote a sense of self-respect, a love for home and family, a dedication to the principles of our national greatness, and the practice of high moral standards.

The school will project these values through:

a. A curriculum best meeting the needs of the students,

b. The employment of qualified instructors,

c. Utilizing innovative methods and contemporary materials and equipment,

d. Maintaining an informative relationship with parents concerning achievements and continuing objectives.

Halifax Academy is seeking a visionary Christian leader to serve as Headmaster for the 2017-2018 school year. Reporting directly to the Halifax Academy Board of Trustees, the Headmaster is expected to lead the school based on Biblical principles; lead the school’s day-to-day activities; secure well-qualified faculty and staff; lead the faculty in curriculum development initiatives; and align parent, staff, and student activities with the mission of the school.

Roles and Responsibilities

Leading Instruction:

1) Clearly communicate with students, faculty, staff, and parents, the Board of Trustee’s vision of a Biblical education.

2) Administer the school’s faculty and staff observation and annual evaluation plan.

3) Work with faculty, staff, and Board members to regularly assess student achievement, identifying areas for development, and creating appropriate improvement plans.

4) Clearly communicate with faculty and staff via regularly scheduled meetings.

5) Maintain schoolwide discipline by being visible throughout the school day and at after school activities, effectively enforcing school conduct policies

Leading Spiritually:

1) Lead the school by Christian example.

2) Encourage students, staff, and faculty to grow in their walk with Christ.

3) Maintain membership and attend regularly a local church that promotes Biblical values in alignment with Halifax Academy’s mission.

Leading the Staff and Faculty Through Administrative Tasks:

1) Effectively recruit and recommend to the Board of Trustees for hire both faculty and staff.

2) Appropriately assign duties to staff and faculty.

3) Maintain high staff morale through clear and open communication and maintaining an open door policy.

4) Oversee the proper administration of academic and personnel records.

Leading Parents and the Community:

1) Clearly and regularly communicate the direction and vision of the school.

2) Actively promote the vision of the school and lead the school community in aligning activities with the overall mission of the school.

Leading Through Relationships With the Board of Trustees:

1) Actively carry out policies and decisions of the Board of Trustees.

2) Suggest policy and procedure changes to the Board of Trustees.

3) Regularly apprise the Board of Trustees of issues that occur at the school.

4) Follow through with assigned tasks of the Board of Trustees.

Position Requirements

- Master’s degree in educational administration, Christian school administration, or the equivalent, from a regionally accredited institution

- Five years of school administrative experience

- Strong commitment to leading a school based on Biblical principles

- Excellent oral and written communication skills
